Hymntunes

As I have striven throughout my career to make a difference in classical sacred music beyond the address of the church to which I have been called at the time, one major way I have tried to contribute is by composing new hymntunes, noble hymntunes, majestic hymntunes, hymntunes for musicians, classical hymntunes, contemporary classical hymntunes, even some that might have leanings as new Presbyterian hymns, new Episcopal hymns, new Methodist hymns, and new Congregational hymns.

In my compendium of original hymntunes are found [1] tunes setting for the first time many outstanding and inspired texts by contemporary theologians and hymn-writers, [2] new tunes to well-known hymn texts, [3] hymntunes in major keys, [4] hymntunes in minor keys, [5] hymntunes in ancient modes, [6] hymntunes a la Romantic English ‘School,’ [7] hymntunes with a distinctly American flair, [8] hymntunes for organ accompaniment, [9] hymntunes for piano accompaniment, and, in general, something for a wide variety of musical tastes, skill levels, and worship styles…something for everybody.

You are not ‘locked’ into the texts that are here wedded to my hymntunes.  I would be pleased to custom wed, with the ERT hymntune of your choice, any text of your choice, as long as your text matches in like meter to the hymntune of your choice (e.g. 8.6.8.6., or 7.6.7.6., or 8.8.8.8., et cetera).

Let’s see if we can share some new-yet-singable-from-the-get-go classical-sounding hymntunes with your congregation.  Most of my hymntunes give the impression that “I have sung that tune somewhere before” as they are strongly melodic, so logical and rich harmonically, and so fitting to the rise and fall of the text…yet at the same time innovative, fresh, and delicious.

Think about this, too: you are not ‘locked’ into the texts that are here wedded to my hymntunes. I would pleased to custom pair, with the ERT hymntunes of your choice, any text of your choice, as long as your text matches in like meter to the hymntunes of your choice (8.6.8.6. or 7.6.7.6., or 8.8.8.8., et cetera). Let’s see if we can share some new-yet-totally-singable-from-the-start classical- sounding hymntunes with your congregation. Most of my hymntunes give the impression that “I have sung that tune somewhere before” as they are strongly melodic, so logical and rich harmonically, and so fitting to the rise and fall of the text…yet so innovative, fresh, and delicious.
