Edwin R. Taylor
Composer / Arranger and Lifelong Church Musician
I am composer/arranger and lifelong church musician, Edwin R. Taylor, and I have served as Minister of Music or Music Director in churches from New Jersey to Michigan and Florida to Connecticut.
As my particular passion for ‘making a difference’ in the world of sacred music has been through composing and arranging, I am making available many of my compositions via this website. Please click on the above tabs to preview and listen to a wide variety of compositions for the Church, concert, recital, and home.

"Why do so many of us try to explain the beauty of music,
thus depriving it of its mystery?"
-Leonard Bernstein
Biography
Following in my dad’s Cincinnati Conservatory of Music footsteps, I have spent my life serving churches as music director; minister of music; organist/pianist; choral/orchestral conductor; composer/arranger; and concert series designer/funder/director. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Church Music and a Master’s Degree in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College, in Princeton, New Jersey, and have served church music ministries in Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, and Fort Myers, Florida; Ridgefield, Connecticut; and Flint, Michigan. As School Photographer in college, I photographed, developed, and printed pictures of each of the conductors under whom we, in the Westminster Symphonic Choir, sang/recorded in New York, Washington, Montreal, Pittsburgh, including Leopold Stowkowski, Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, Loren Maazel, Pierre Boulez, Olivier Messiaen, Rafael Kubelik, Lukas Foss, and others. After a career of full-time church music ministries, teaching as adjunct professor in a couple colleges, conducting choirs and orchestras (including occasional premieres), composing and arranging, and, most of all, striving to make a difference in the world of sacred music, I currently devote much of my time to composing fresh new hymntunes, simple to elaborate hymn reharmonizations, hymn descants, and Anglican Psalm tones, all the while serving as part-time music director at a church in Florida, serving on the Board of two chapters of the American Guild of Organists, and singing—along with my wife—in an excellent community chorus.
